October Meeting Topics

Welcome to Weight Watchers Maine!

9/30 – 10/6/07 DITCHING THE DIET MIND-SET

What’s so bad about dieting? There’s nothing wrong with it as long as your desire is to lose weight temporarily, then stop dieting and gain back the lost weight. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, however, there’s plenty wrong with a diet. A diet is not a good fit with your life. Diets by definition are restrictive and built on depravation. Who wants to live like that for the rest of their life? If you think dieting is the way to lose weight, this meeting will convince you otherwise.

10/7 – 10/13/07 THE VOYAGE OF SELF-DISCOVERY

For weight management to be successful it helps to know who you want to become. In other words, have a clear idea of the way you will behave to lose weight and keep it off. To know how to do that, however, you need to start by knowing who you are – what makes you do what you do. It’s easy to blame our weight on our parents, our environment or even food that tastes too good. All that blaming might make us feel better because it takes away our responsibility and therefore our power. This meeting is about self-discovery – who are you and what it will take to become who you want to be! You’ll learn more about Weight Watchers “think first” approach to weight loss.

10/14 – 10/20/07 EATING OUT

You don’t need a degree in nutrition science to make delicious choices when you eat out and you don’t need a degree to make weight-loss supportive choices either. A little basic information and a good game plan is all it takes. Whether you follow Core or Flex eating out can fit your plan deliciously.

10/21 – 10/27/07 5 MYTHS ABOUT MOVING MORE

“Myth”information about exercise! There are five myths so often repeated that it’s hard to be sure if they are myths or truths. Some foods provide more energy for exercise than others…exercise causes weight gain because you bulk up…. aerobic activity meets all the body’s exercise needs…. muscle weighs more than fat…. weekly weight loss progress will be seen on the scale if I always follow my plan perfectly and earn 4 activity POINTS® I don’t ever eat. Learn the truth about these myths and be prepared to leave the meeting with a commitment to regular physical activity!

10/28 – 11/3/07 SIGNS OF YOUR PROGRESS

When you step on the scale and the reading is two pounds less than the previous week you know you made progress. What about when you step on the scale and it reads higher than the previous week. Does that mean you didn’t make progress, or worse, that your progress has been reversed? It might, but chances are you are making important progress that the scale simply cannot measure. If you can’t recognize or acknowledge the progress you may become discouraged and give up on reaching your weight related goals. This is an important meeting! Be sure to get to a meeting this week to learn how to recognize every sign of progress!
